Position Overview

Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is currently seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations for a dynamic and growing organization in the southeast area of Phoenix. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives on improving and modernizing payroll processes in a multi-state environment. The position offers a hybrid work schedule following an initial month of onsite work, transitioning to up to two remote days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and personally process multi-state weekly payroll as needed.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a payroll team of three.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, including California.
  • Administer payroll systems and support the transition from UKG to Workday.
  • Partner with Accounting on general ledger entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Manage tax and garnishment setup and accuracy across multiple states.
  • Drive payroll process improvements and modernization efforts.
  • Prepare payroll reports, audits, and support internal/external requests.
  • Create and deliver payroll and time management training.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in a payroll management role.
  • Strong multi-state payroll expertise, including California compliance.
  • Hands-on experience with Workday payroll (required).
  • Experience with payroll system implementations or integrations.
  • Solid knowledge of general ledger and payroll accounting.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to handle confidential data.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred.
  • Experience transitioning payroll systems, specifically from UKG to Workday, is a strong plus.

Required Work Hours

Monday - Friday, with a hybrid schedule after the first month onsite.

Benefits

Compensation for this role ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 annually, without a bonus. Additional benefits and details will be discussed during the hiring process.
